A Heap of Anime News Arrived During the Festive Season
The Christmas holidays present a multitude of pastimes much better than catching up on the updates: opening presents, feasting on holiday treats, and employing patience techniques to avoid arguing with loved ones. Hopefully you were able to accomplish all these things and more. However, the world of entertainment doesn't go on vacation, and this is especially true for the realm of anime. Many thrilling news items emerged over the break, and just in case you missed any, here is a compilation of the juiciest bits.
The One-Punch Man Series Season 3 Is Moving Forward (By 2027)
Perhaps the biggest announcement, the notorious controversial season that was season 3 of One-Punch Man failed to deter more episodes. The show will come back with a second cour in 2027—a date so remote they easily could have labeled it season 4. Adding to the surprise, animation studio J.C. Staff will still be in charge. At least this time, director Shinpei Nagai is attached to direct from the start, which could be taken as a hopeful indicator. But, the key visual for the continuation is identical to the one used for season 3, just with protagonists Saitama and Garou oriented differently. This leads one to believe that, by now, they could be trolling the fans.
The Ruri Dragon Series Is Poised to Be the Premiere Shonen Jump Anime From Kyoto Animation
Kyoto Animation has established a reputation for being an prestigious animation studio, making its mark not just for the exceptional quality of its productions but for the ethical practices of its employees—a rarity in the industry. Surprisingly, until now, it had not produced an anime stemming from a manga serialized in Shonen Jump, possibly the most iconic magazine in the business. Ruri Dragon will break that tradition, and what a excellent choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo became a huge following when it launched in 2022 after just a few chapters, but then went into a two-year hiatus due to the mangaka's health issues. When it returned with a reduced workload, the series showed it maintained the fans' affection and enthusiasm, and now fans are ecstatic about the forthcoming KyoAni adaptation.
The Kingdom Series Its Sixth Season Has a Sequel Currently in Production
Kingdom is the highly popular, decades-spanning Shueisha manga that is other than One Piece. If you've haven't come across it before, it's because it only recently got an English localization, but the anime has been going on for some time, and season 6 was a further stellar entry. As it happens that was just the first half, because a "sequel" has been revealed as currently being made, and it will almost certainly debut in 2026.
Science Saru Is Bringing A Witch in Mongolia Into an Anime Series
A further studio renowned for the superior craftsmanship of its projects, Science Saru has brought us hit shows of the ilk of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, lastly, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be taking on the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, inspired by the actual historical person of Fatima, an influential woman and scholar in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. From the trailer, the anime called Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a highly unique and fascinating visual style, which reminds me a bit of Ranking of Kings. Debuting in July 2026, this one will without a doubt be on my must-watch list.
The Tougen Anki Series Will Continue With a Second Season
Immediately following the airing of the final episode of the first season, it was revealed that Tougen Anki will be receiving a follow-up.
