Chiefs State They Are Aware of Alleged Abuse Claims Connected to Player Rashee Rice

The Kansas City Chiefs issued a statement Wednesday night confirming they are aware of claims of abuse made public in online accounts by a ex-partner of player the athlete and had been in contact with the league office.

The team did not mention the player by name in their statement and stated they would have “no further comment at this time”.

Allegations Posted on Instagram

Dacoda Nichole Jones, who also did not mention the athlete by name, shared a series of photos on Instagram that seemed to depict signs of physical abuse. She did say the person involved was the parent of her kids, and reports indicate she has kids with Rice, whom the team selected in the second round.

Police Reports Reportedly Unavailable

No official complaints were on file in the Kansas City suburb where the incident is said to have occurred.

Player's Recent Off-Field Troubles

Rice was absent for the initial part of this season due to an league-mandated ban for his role in causing a crash on a Dallas highway that resulted in multiple people injured. He was given a month of incarceration and probationary supervision after pleading guilty to serious offenses.

On the field, Rice finished the year with 53 catches for 571 yards and five touchdowns as the Kansas City went with a losing record and missed the playoffs for the first occasion in a decade.
