People have assembled across the country to remember the second anniversary since the Hamas-conducted attack on that fateful day in October 2023, as negotiations continued in the neighboring country over a resolution to the conflict in the Gaza Strip.

The attack resulted in more than 1,200 people dead and 251 others taken away to Gaza as prisoners. It was the most most lethal day for Jews since the Holocaust.

Israel responded by beginning a defensive operation in Gaza which has killed more than 67,000 people, based on figures from the territory's Hamas-controlled health ministry. Its figures are seen as accurate by the UN and other international bodies.

"The aggressive opponents have caused great damage, but they have not broken us," Benjamin Netanyahu added on Tuesday.

He also pledged to "accomplish all the objectives of the war: the return of all the kidnapped, the destruction of the Hamas regime and the promise that Gaza will never again create a danger to Israel".

Memorial Events Across Israel

The Israeli government postponed official remembrance events until October 16th - after the completion of the religious holiday season - but events still occurred throughout the country on that day.

A commemorative event for the families of Israelis who died in the Hamas assault was conducted in Tel Aviv. Organized by the families themselves, it was aired throughout Israeli broadcast stations.

Hours earlier, a minute's silence was held across the country.

Peace Talks in Egypt

Meanwhile, Israeli and Hamas delegations gathered in the Egyptian tourist destination of Sharm el-Sheikh for a follow-up session of mediated discussions to review the conditions of the plan.

A high-ranking Palestinian official knowledgeable about the negotiations revealed that an late session of mediated discussions commenced at 19:00 Cairo time.

The official said the earlier meeting concluded without significant progress, amid disagreements over the suggested Israeli retreat arrangements from Gaza and over guarantees Hamas demands to guarantee Israel does not resume hostilities after the opening period of the agreement.

He commented that the discussions are "tough and have not yet achieve any real breakthrough," but noted that facilitators are working hard to narrow the gaps between the both parties.

Key Matters in Negotiations

  • A lasting halt to fighting
  • The trade of the prisoners still detained by Hamas for detainees from Gaza
  • The pullout of military personnel from Gaza
  • Measures for humanitarian aid provision
  • Post-war management of the region

Civilian Sentiment

In Tel Aviv's memorial area that day, young Hagar - whose family member lived through the assault on the Nova music festival, where hundreds were murdered and dozens more were captured by Hamas gunmen - explained: "No place appears as home any longer and until each abducted person come back no one will have peace of mind."

"Once we see everybody home returned, we can relax once more. Then we can begin to heal," she added.

In front of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's official dwelling in the capital, people assembled to express their support for the loved ones of the abducted. Israel states nearly fifty remain in captivity in Gaza, 20 of whom are considered to be surviving.

Protester one woman remarked: "We must do whatever arrangement needed for the hostages to be released. But we really want assurances that we will be safe."

Research now frequently demonstrate that around the majority of Israeli citizens prefer the conflict to conclude in return for the release of the hostages.

Gaza Circumstances

At the site of Nova festival, those paying respects assembled to honor the dead.

From that location, the noise of aerial bombardments and explosions could be noticed just a short distance away in Gaza, where local people said the intense Israeli bombardment continued.

In the main city, air and artillery strikes were reported in the dawn of that day in the west side Tal al-Hawa, area and Nasr districts and in the eastern district of Sheikh Radwan, as well Shati refugee camp to the northwest.

"Once the night comes, the anxiety arrives with it," evacuated urban resident a local woman, whose teenage son was lost his life by an Israeli bombing earlier, shared.

"We are fearful of the air strikes. Throughout the evening we are lying together, holding each other, especially my smallest child who places his face on me all night."

"Continuously we check the reports to see the situation. And I'm concerned that this truce will not be achieved and that the fighting will resume to us."

Humanitarian Emergency

Al-Shifa hospital in Gaza City announced it had taken in the remains of half dozen people by the daytime, including several killed in an Israeli attack in the south part al-Sabra neighbourhood.

Nasser hospital in the southern urban center of the city reported two more fatalities had been delivered. One of them was lost his life by Israeli troops while looking for help to the southern area, medics reported.

The region's health ministry said a significant number of the {territ
