Interior Minister Shabana Mahmood has unveiled what is being described as the biggest changes to combat illegal migration "in recent history".

The new plan, inspired by the tougher stance enacted by the Danish administration, establishes asylum approval provisional, limits the review procedure and proposes visa bans on countries that impede deportations.

Temporary Asylum Approvals

Those receiving refugee status in the UK will be permitted to remain in the country on a provisional basis, with their situation reassessed every 30 months.

This means people could be returned to their native land if it is deemed "safe".

This approach echoes the practice in that European nation, where refugees get two-year permits and must submit new applications when they end.

The government claims it has begun supporting people to return to Syria by choice, following the overthrow of the current administration.

It will now begin considering compulsory deportations to the region and other countries where people have not regularly been deported to in recent years.

Protected individuals will also need to be living in the UK for twenty years before they can request permanent residence - increased from the current half-decade.

Meanwhile, the authorities will establish a new "employment and education" residence option, and prompt asylum recipients to obtain work or start studying in order to transition to this option and qualify for residency faster.

Exclusively persons on this employment and education program will be able to petition for relatives to come to in the UK.

Legal System Changes

Government officials also aims to eliminate the process of allowing numerous reviews in refugee applications and introducing instead a single, consolidated appeal where each basis must be raised at once.
