Patrick Bamford Signs With the Blades Despite Leading Abusive Songs Targeting Manager Wilder

Patrick Bamford has signed with the Championship side only seven months following leading derogatory taunts aimed at their manager, Chris Wilder.

This experienced striker, without a club after departing from Leeds United, has signed a contract with the second-tier club in difficulty until January. Bamford's lengthy time at Elland Road concluded amicably in August.

One of Bamford’s final notable acts as a Leeds player involved leading offensive songs about Chris Wilder amid the club’s promotion celebrations this spring. Now, the one-cap England international is set to play for Wilder as Sheffield United's boss seeks to rescue his beloved club out of the drop zone.

Past History Between Bamford & Wilder

Both men had history prior to Leeds moved up back to the Premier League last season and United were defeated in the promotion decider by Sunderland. The manager described the forward as “a muppet” when the situation was different during the 2018-19 season and Sheffield United secured direct promotion whereas Leeds United missed out in the playoffs.

Reconciliation and Looking Ahead

All appears to have been forgiven and forgotten with United, the Championship’s lowest scorers, in desperate need of improvement up front while Bamford aiming to rejuvenate his career.

The Wilder chant gained traction this spring. An apologetic Bamford along with Leeds boss, Daniel Farke, phoned Wilder the following day.

Chris Wilder commented at the time: “Spoke with Patrick yesterday and I have no issue at all with that. I'm uncertain about the words used from a fellow professional! However I valued and admired him giving me a call.

“We spent a short while and similarly I spoke to Daniel Farke as well and we had a half-hour chat together and he is a super guy, a class act. When I was playing we used to give it and accept it and that’s part and parcel of football across all levels, even on Sunday league. I have absolutely no issue. I'm fine with it and I told him that to Patrick.”

Recent Playing Challenges

The forward featured in 18 games for Leeds in the previous campaign however the ex- Nottingham Forest, Chelsea FC & Middlesbrough striker has faced difficulties with fitness issues over the past few seasons.
