Slot Asserts He Is Secure and Has The Club's Backing Following PSV Eindhoven Humiliation
Arne Slot admitted that it's understandable for doubts to be asked about his position following a further heavy loss versus PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds suffered their 9th defeat in twelve games, marking the club's poorest streak since being relegated in the 1953-54 season.
They were outplayed by the Dutch league champions on a tough evening at Anfield.
“I'm confident, things are alright, I've received plenty of support from management,” the coach commented.
“It's important to change things and secure a win naturally but if you are in a managerial role and not doing well then it is normal that people question you.”
He continued, “I am OK with my role. This isn't the first time I’ve been in a difficult position but it is about time that we changed our fortunes.”
Discussions with The Board
When asked to expand on his dialogues with the team officials, the head coach explained:
“We communicate frequently. They are helpful to the team and to me and those talks happen but they don’t call me every single minute of the day to say they back me.”
He mentioned, “In the normal conversations we have I feel the belief. But I haven’t spoken to them since this defeat yet so let’s see.”
Recurring Failings and Player Response
Slot highlighted familiar shortcomings from his Liverpool side in their Champions League defeat, specifically poor finishing and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was more forthright in his view of the current crisis.
“I haven't got the answers. Truthfully, I don’t. I’m saying that to everyone,” the midfielder stated.
“It's simply not good enough. I don't have to wait to think about it. I’m past getting mad internally. I’m at the point now where I just don’t have the phrases.”
He went on, “It’s hard because I play for the side I follow. I'm a supporter, and I’ve seen this club all my life.”
“For many years, I've not seen a Liverpool team enduring a phase such as this with results so bad.”
He concluded, “But we continue to wear the emblem on our chest. And as long as that badge is taken away, we’re always going to fight.”
“Our aim is to bring this squad return to its rightful place, prove once more the values of this club and the reason it's called the top club in the world.”
“But right now, we’re in the shit and it needs to change.”
