The Latest Casual Playlist Ignites Intense Debates Regarding AI Players, XP Rewards, and Queue Times

Recently, the game developers launched a new game mode titled Casual Breakthrough. In essence, this option mirrors the regular Breakthrough format but features a few key changes:

  • Every squad has only eight real players, with the rest filled by 32 bots.
  • Activities done by human gamers grant full XP, while bot actions provide lower rewards.
  • Just a pair of maps are available: Cairo Siege and Empire State map.
  • Features like Dogtags, accolades, and career stat updates are disabled.

In short, this mode lives up to its title: it's a casual take of Breakthrough. At face value, you might think there's nothing wrong, as it gives additional choices for players looking for different ways to have fun with the title. But, if video games has shown one thing, it is that not everyone will be happy. Which is to say, a lot of Battlefield 6 players are mad.

Community Reactions: Anger to Praise

"Gamers prefer human opponents. Avoid making the errors of your rivals," reads one reply to the official announcement. "Truly disappointing idea," says another. At the same time, in community forums, one user notes, "It's unclear where we are going with this title," while someone else lists all the issues they consider to be broken in Battlefield 6: "Fix bugs, address drone issues, correct rocket mechanics, adjust aiming after sprinting, fix awful hit registration. We do not require this bot mode."

On the other hand, amid the criticism, some gamers sharing how much they're liking the new mode. "It's very fun to practice, human participants keep it from being a complete grind but it's very relaxed," reads a forum post. "This subreddit doesn't understand that there are gamers who have lives and can't play this title 24/7. Let them find a middle ground," states another. One reply on Twitter explains that as they're "a parent gamer with limited time, this is perfect for me," and another applauds the mode for "avoiding intense competition."

Valid Concerns and Player Feedback

Despite the support, there are valid points to complain about the new mode. Some users have highlighted that it could increase wait times even longer for other modes due to the sheer number of playlists currently available. On a similar note, certain regions already encounter AI-filled matches in the current modes. Additionally, it appears a little backwards that the mode won't start without a minimum number of human gamers, even though it focuses mostly on combat against bots.

Finally, a major grievances is that a previous feature was meant to provide full XP, even against bots, but that was removed when they tried to remove XP farming from the mode. Thus Casual Breakthrough seems like the community meeting them halfway, according to a Reddit comment. A different user describes this mode as the devs "dropping the ball significantly, I experienced so much fun in the first couple of days, why did they feel the need to change it?"

Looking Ahead: Adjustments Occur?

If the development team has demonstrated something so far with the latest installment, it is that they're listening and responding to player input. Tasks that were overly hard were adjusted very quickly, as did the specific battle pass objectives. Chances are that, if their data indicates this recent mode isn't performing to their expectations, they won't be shy to change it again.
