The President Invites Relatives of Shot Military Members to White House

President Donald Trump revealed on Sunday that he has extended an invitation the loved ones of a Guard member killed last week to visit the executive mansion.

He added that he spoke to her parents and they were “devastated”.

Background on the Tragic Event

US army specialist Sarah Beckstrom, twenty years old, was killed in a shooting on last Wednesday in DC.

Her fellow service member, US air force staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, is still in the hospital in grave state.

Memorials across the state have taken place in their memory.

White House Call

The commander-in-chief explained he’s proposed a White House visit for the loved ones of both members of the West Virginia Guard.

“I told them: ‘When you’re prepared, because that’s a hard experience, visit the White House. We’re going to recognize her,” the president told journalists. “And similarly with him, no matter the outcome.”

Public Response

Attendees assembled over the weekend at Webster County high school in the state to honor Beckstrom.

Both they had been fulfilling duties with the West Virginia National Guard as part of the president’s national effort to aid law enforcement in Washington DC.

Paying Tribute to Sarah Beckstrom

“Sarah was the kind of student that educators wished for. She conducted herself with calm resilience, a warm expression and a upbeat demeanor that encouraged people around her,” Hankins, the leader of her alma mater, told the Associated Press. “She was sweet, considerate and always ready to help others.”

Funeral plans for Beckstrom are still being arranged.

Legal Steps and Policy Revisions

Authorities have indicted a 29-year-old Afghan national with a charge of homicide and two counts of attempted murder while carrying a weapon.

The tragedy caused the Trump administration to halt asylum processing and temporarily stop providing entry permits to owners of travel documents.

Condition of Andrew Wolfe

Andrew Wolfe, a native of Martinsburg, began his service in early 2019 and is a graduate of Musselman High, as reported by the Associated Press.

He remains under medical supervision and is “in a critical fight”, the state’s leader Morrisey mentioned on a news program.

The state’s top lawyer the attorney general informed Fox News Sunday that she planned to visit his relatives.

Impact of Beckstrom

Sarah, from her hometown, graduated from Webster County High in June 2023 and began her service not long after, working as a MP with distinction, according to the military.

“She had a lot of compassion and she absolutely had bravery,” the governor addressed the crowd at the service. “Though her life was cut short, she has left a mark that’s going to endure.”
